We started today at the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao by Frank Gehry, the building has regenerated what is a beautiful city, its position on its site is magnificent and certainly an architectural icon. The spaces created internally reflected the external appearance, although I personally disappointed by artwork internally.
An hour or so drive south to Elciego, in the heart of Rioja we visited the vineyard of Marquis de Riscal, again designed by Frank Gehry in 2006, the vineyard has the original cellars below with the hotel above, apparently the design was inspired by the flow of the vines so I am informed by the tour guide. Access was limited as the building is predominantly a 5 star hotel but we took a cellar tour which was a very enjoyable way to spend time and tasted the superb wines after.
